Sourdough baking is a wonderful and rewarding process! Thereโ€™s something incredibly rewarding about breaking into a homemade loaf of bread with your friends and family. When youโ€™ve mixed, kneaded and baked that loaf yourself, it becomes a love language. โค๏ธ

Our dream is that people would bake and break bread in their own homes and eat together with glad and sincere hearts Acts 2:46. When I transitioned into the role of stay-at-home mom, I first and foremost took the food we would be eating together very seriously. Being able to serve a warm loaf of bread to my family at the dinner table changed my life. I pray you feel empowered to do the same.

Kitchen Scale: A food scale is a kitchen tool used to measure the weight of ingredients and food items. It’s a valuable tool for baking and will set you up for success on your sourdough journey.

Mason Jar: Mason jars are the perfect way to store your sourdough starter. When your starter is on the counter cover it with a cute jar cover. When storing your sourdough starter, lock the lid and put your jar in the refrigerator. Mason jars come in various sizes and styles, we recommend a wide mouth for easy stirring and an airtight lid for storing.

Dough Whisk: A dough whisk is a specialized kitchen tool used for mixing and combining doughs, particularly for bread, pastries, and other baked goods. It features a long handle with a looped or spiral wire head that helps incorporate ingredients without overworking the dough.

Bench Scraper: A pastry bench scraper, also known as a dough scraper or bench knife, is a versatile kitchen tool commonly used in baking and pastry making. You can use it to cut and portion your dough, mixing. folding and lifting your loaf into your banneton. When you’re finished with your prep you can scrape your surface to make for easy clean up.

Banneton/ Proofing Basket: A banneton is a bread proofing basket used in baking, particularly for artisanal and sourdough breads. It provides support to the dough while it rises and helps shape the loaf. Banneton baskets are typically made of natural materials, such as rattan, and may have a cloth liner. To prevent sticking, dust the inside of the banneton with flour before use. The 2 most common banneton shapes are round (Boule) or oval (Batard).

Bread Lame: A bread lame (pronounced “lam”) is a tool used for scoring dough before baking. Scoring is an important technique that allows the bread to expand properly in the oven, giving it a beautiful appearance and helping to control the direction of the rise.

Bread Mat for Dutch Oven: Silicone mats provide a non-stick surface, making it easy to work with sticky dough. they are easy to clean and typically dishwasher safe or can be easily wiped clean by hand, making them convenient for regular use and eliminate the need for parchment paper.

Dutch Oven: A Dutch oven is a versatile cooking pot that is typically made from cast iron. It features high sides and a heavy lid making it the perfect way for the home baker to bake sourdough bread. Baking sourdough bread in a Dutch oven is a great way to achieve a crispy crust and a soft, chewy interior.

Oven Mits: Oven Mits are protective gear you’ll need to handle your hot Dutch oven. They come in various materials and styles, designed to provide heat resistance and a good grip.
