Iced Spiced Banana Bread Latte

For an extra creamy version, add a splash of vanilla sweet cream or cold foam.

Tips & Tricks
Use an extra-ripe banana. This is the time for that brown, spotty banana sitting on your counter. The riper the banana, the sweeter and more developed its flavor will be.
Strain the syrup. This makes a big difference. Leaving the banana pulp in the syrup can give your latte more of a smoothie-like texture. Straining it gives you banana flavor while keeping your coffee smooth.
Start with less syrup. Banana can quickly overpower coffee. Start with one tablespoon, taste, and add more if you'd like.
Brown sugar gives it that banana-bread flavor. You could use granulated sugar, but brown sugar adds a deeper, almost caramel-like flavor that pairs beautifully with banana and espresso.
Don't forget the salt. A tiny pinch balances the sweetness and makes the brown sugar, vanilla, banana, and spices pop.
Freshly grated nutmeg is amazing here. If you have whole nutmeg, grate a tiny bit over the finished latte.
What Milk Works Best?
Whole milk will give you the creamiest traditional latte, but oat milk would be especially delicious here because its naturally toasty flavor complements the banana and brown sugar.
Almond milk, 2% milk, and your favorite non-dairy milk will all work, too.
Do I Need an Espresso Machine?
No! Strong brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate works just fine.
Replace the espresso with about 1/3–1/2 cup strongly brewed coffee, then adjust the amount of milk to your preference.

How to Store Banana Bread Syrup
Because this homemade syrup contains fresh banana, it should be kept refrigerated in an airtight container and used within about 5 days. Give it a quick shake or stir before using.
This isn't a shelf-stable coffee syrup, so don't leave it sitting at room temperature for extended periods.
Perfect for Fall Coffee at Home
Pumpkin spice may get all the attention once fall rolls around, but banana, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and espresso deserve their moment, too.

Imagine warm banana bread fresh from the oven, but in latte form! This Spiced Banana Bread Latte combines espresso, creamy milk, real banana, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and warm spices for a cozy homemade coffee that tastes like your favorite slice of banana bread.

Ingredients
2 very ripe bananas, mashed
1 cup water
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine the mashed bananas and water. Stir until well mixed and smooth, over medium heat until the mixture starts to simmer, about 5 minutes.
Add the packed brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved, about 2 minutes.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup has thickened slightly. The syrup should coat the back of a spoon when ready.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the syrup to cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a clean glass jar or bottle.
Once cooled, store the syrup in the refrigerator. It will thicken further as it cools.
