How to Serve Cheeseburger Casserole
This casserole is best served hot, straight from the oven, while the cheese is perfectly melty and the potatoes are still crisp around the edges. Just like building your favorite cheeseburger, everyone can customize their own bowl with fresh toppings!
Here are some of our favorite ways to serve it:
- Drizzle generously with homemade burger sauce.
- Top with sliced dill pickles for that classic cheeseburger tang.
- Add halved cherry tomatoes for a fresh, juicy bite.
- Sprinkle with diced red onion for extra crunch.
- Finish with shredded lettuce after baking if you want even more of a burger-inspired feel.
- Add crispy bacon crumbles for an easy bacon cheeseburger twist.
- Serve alongside fresh fruit, roasted vegetables, a simple side salad, or baked beans for a complete meal.
For meal prep, divide the casserole into individual containers and pack the burger sauce, pickles, and tomatoes separately. Add the fresh toppings after reheating for the best texture.

How to Store
Refrigerator
Allow the casserole to cool completely before storing.
Transfer leftovers to an airtight container or cover the baking dish tightly with foil or a lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days
Keep the burger sauce and fresh toppings (pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.) in separate containers so everything stays fresh and crisp.
Freezer
This casserole freezes surprisingly well before adding the fresh toppings.
- Cool completely.
- Wrap the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and foil, or transfer portions to freezer-safe containers.
- Freeze for up to 3 months
Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Pickles
Bacon bits
Tomatoes
Red onion
Shredded lettuce
Sesame seeds
Directions
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add 2 tablespoons of avocado oil. Once hot, add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Season with 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional minute until the spices are fragrant.
Wash and dice your potatoes and spread evenly on a baking sheet. Season to your liking and roast in your preheated oven for 25 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ground beef mixture, diced potatoes, half of your cheese, and 4 cups of baby spinach. Stir until the spinach begins to wilt from the heat of the mixture, about 2 minutes.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Top with the rest of your cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown!
In a smaller bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon smoked paprika. Stir until completely combined and smooth.
You can top the casserole with the burger sauce, pickles and tomatoes. Or you can serve them on the side! My family likes the add the sauce themselves.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving with your favorite toppings!
