The Quiet Time I Didn't Know I Needed
I never realized how important quiet time would be as an adult.
Sure, we ask our children to have quiet time as a means of recharging their batteries, but it takes great discipline to embrace quiet time in our own lives.
We fill our days with chores, housework, exercise, work, and endless to-do lists. But there has been a yearning in my soul for quiet time with the Lord that I had been willfully ignoring—until I got injured.
Since my hip injury, I have been forced to sit still, which felt incredibly unnatural. My body was physically uncomfortable with it, which I realize sounds a little silly. But now that I am on the other side of it (almost eight weeks later) the quiet, slow mornings I once resisted have become a non-negotiable part of my day.

So, the point of all this...
A new season is right around the corner. Depending on when you're reading this, a new season is technically always around the corner. Praise God for that.
But at the time of writing this, summer is just a few days away, and I want to challenge you.
Be intentional with quiet time.
I could use all the cliché Pinterest quotes, like, "You can't pour from an empty cup," but the truth is much simpler:
The Lord wants our attention.
He is waiting for us to come to Him.
Here is an excerpt from my current devotional, Streams in the Desert:
"Years ago, there was an old German professor whose beautiful life was a wonder to his students. Some of them were determined to learn the secret of it, so one night they sent someone to hide in the study where the professor spent his evenings.
It was quite late when the teacher finally came in. He was very tired but sat down and spent one hour with his Bible. Then he bowed his head in prayer, and finally, closing the Book of Books, he said, 'Well, Lord Jesus, we still have the same old relationship.'
'To know Christ' (Philippians 3:10) is life's greatest achievement."
HOW LUCKY AM I that the Creator of the universe knows my name.

So if you're wondering where to start with reading your Bible, I'm so glad you're here.
This summer, we're doing a reading adventure. I hesitate to call it a challenge because that word doesn't quite fit. Instead, let's call it an invitation.
We're reading the New Testament in 90 days, and I'd love for you to join us.
And I know what you're thinking:
"Courtney, it's summer. We're busy. The kids are home. How will I have time?"
GOOD.
What a wonderful place to start.

Now more than ever, let our kids watch us read our Bibles. Let them see us making time for Him. Let us return to Him in the busiest, sunniest season of the year.
If you follow me on social media, I'll be posting encouragement and check-ins all summer long.
I can't wait to see what the Lord will do.
